One Pipe Major’s Musical Journey - From Heavy Metalist to Band Geek and Back Again

One Pipe Major’s Musical Journey - From Heavy Metalist to Band Geek and Back Again

I’ve been a band geek for as long as I can remember.  My parents, with incredible foresight, gave me a toy Mickey Mouse Drum Set when I was about 3 years old.  I fell in love with the drums immediately.  My sisters promptly broke my beloved toy, but to be fair to them, the heads were essentially made of construction paper.  But I didn’t care.  My world had ended as far as I was concerned; I was never going to be Peter Criss.

Celebrating Another Great Year - Las Vegas Pipe Band Style!

We have had another amazing year of events, competitions, teaching, growing the band, and educating the community about Celtic culture through spreading bagpipe music, passion, and leadership. We decided to celebrate LVPB style through awards at our annual meeting this week. Of course, we had the traditional awards that recognize musical growth and development - like MVPs and most improved players. However, what true pipe band award ceremony would be complete without recognizing the most fervent drinkers among us? Or the number of gray hairs the ladies of the band have added to the Pipe Major's beard? Or even the tendency of some band members to wear their kilts in the traditional fashion; sans underwear! What can we say, that's just how we roll.

As the year comes to a close, we want to thank the community for all of their support and ask that you keep your eyes open for an even bigger and better 2016. Happy Holidays from the Las Vegas Pipe Band and congratulations again to our awardees.
