St Patrick's Day shaping up to be another fun weekend

St Patrick's Day performances are starting to come in and the band will be performing at some good events this year.  We have booked the March 17th parade (11am) on the bridge at the NYNY Hotel and Casino right on the Las Vegas Strip.  This is a great start for their all day festivities at the Nine Fine Irishmen Pub.

We will also be performing at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino on March 17th in the evening.  The Monte Carlo has a new outdoor courtyard that looks out over the Vegas strip and we will be wandering minstrels at this great location!

Then there is our annual performance at Johnnie Macs Pub and Pizzeria in Henderson.  Best pizza out there and they love the pipes on St Pats!  6pm on March 17th.

We will also be performing at the opening parade on March 14th in Henderson.  The parade kicks off the St Patricks Day Street Festival on Water St in Henderson, NV.  The parade starts at 10am.  Joining us on the march will be the Las Vegas Celtic Society.

Come see us at any of these events.  More are sure to come!

New Drum Sergeant Announced

Hello Desert Skye fans and supporters!

We are excited and proud to announce John McDougall to the position of Drum Sergeant with Desert Skye Pipe Band.  John has 20+ years of experience in pipe bands.  His most recent band, Johnstone Pipe Band (Scotland), won the Worlds Championships in Grade 3A in 2014.  He has also competed in the grade 1 circle.  He has a plethora of experience leading drum corps and we feel very lucky to have him living in the valley and playing with the band.  We expect some great times with John in the future!

Welcoming New Members in September!

Desert Skye has the honor and privilege to welcome four new members to the band in September.  All four passed their parade level auditions this past month and received their kilts.

First off, we welcome John McDougall, on snare drum.  He has been playing for 20+ years and just moved to Las Vegas two months back from Scotland.  John has played with many bands in Scotland, and has even competed in the Grade 1 circle at the Worlds Championships.

For pipers, we welcome Bridger Woods, Matthew Swigart and Max Kuniansky.  Bridger and Matthew are both teenagers, new to piping.  They have been taking lessons for about a year.  They are very excited to be in the band and look forward to their first parade at the end of October.

Max has been playing on and off for almost thirty years and recently discovered the band after moving to Las Vegas.  He originally picked up the pipes in the late 1980's, and learned in Miami, Florida, the hot bed of American bagpiping.

We are really happy to have them in the band and expect great things from them in the future.  Congrats guys!
